About image resizing

The browser Canvas API performs every operation locally, without uploading your image. This protects your privacy, avoids transfer delays, and leaves the original file untouched.
Two resizing principles
First, prefer shrinking over enlarging. Shrinking removes extra pixels, while enlarging asks software to invent pixels and cannot create real detail. Second, preserve the aspect ratio. Changing width and height independently stretches the image, so locking the ratio and editing one dimension is the safest approach.
Common uses and suggested sizes
- Website content: 1200–1600 px wide is usually sharp enough without excessive file size.
- Avatars: a 400×400 or 512×512 px square.
- Thumbnails: 200–400 px wide.
- Email attachments: keep the longest edge under 1500 px to avoid oversized files.

QWill my image be uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. The image never leaves your device, and we cannot access it.
QWhich image formats are supported?
Common PNG, JPG, and WebP files are supported, along with GIF, BMP, and AVIF when your browser can decode them. Export as PNG, JPG, WebP, or keep the original format.
QWhat does locking the aspect ratio do?
When enabled, changing the width automatically calculates the matching height, and vice versa, so the image is not stretched. Turn it off to set each dimension independently.
QCan I enlarge an image?
Yes, enter dimensions larger than the original. The browser must interpolate new pixels, however, so enlargement cannot create new detail and may look less sharp.
QWill there be quality loss?
PNG export is lossless. JPG and WebP are lossy, with an adjustable quality setting. Resizing also resamples pixels, which is expected.
QDo I need to sign up or pay?
No. The tool is free, requires no account, and adds no watermark.
