Why can a photo reveal location and device details?
Phones and cameras can store GPS coordinates, timestamps, device and lens models, editing software, creator names, and descriptions inside an image. These fields are invisible during normal viewing but may travel with the original file. Screenshots and social platforms sometimes remove some fields, but behavior varies, so checking before sharing is more reliable.
This tool does not draw the photo to Canvas and save it again. It removes private metadata blocks directly from JPEG, PNG, and WebP containers, avoiding a second lossy compression pass. Every cleaned result is scanned again before it receives a verified status.
When should you use it?

Frequently asked questions
QAre my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Inspection, cleaning, verification, and ZIP creation all happen in your browser. The site never receives your photos.
QWill cleaning reduce quality or change pixels?
No. It edits metadata in the image container and does not re-encode through Canvas. The compressed pixel payload stays unchanged.
QWhat information is removed?
It removes GPS coordinates, camera and lens details, capture times, creator fields, descriptions, EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, Content Credentials, and custom metadata blocks. Orientation and ICC color profiles are explicit exceptions.
QWhy are orientation and color profiles preserved?
Orientation keeps portrait photos upright, while ICC profiles preserve consistent color, so this tool explicitly retains them. An ICC profile can also include a generic profile name or copyright text. If your threat model requires removing ICC data too, export again through the image compressor/converter, which will re-encode pixels.
QWhich formats are supported?
This release supports JPEG/JPG, PNG, and WebP. Lossless metadata cleaning for AVIF, GIF, TIFF, and RAW is not yet supported.
QIs the original file modified?
No. The browser creates a new file with a “-clean” suffix and leaves the original untouched.
QAre Content Credentials or provenance signatures preserved?
No. Content Credentials, edit history, and custom provenance metadata can also carry identifying details, so the clean copy removes them and related signatures will no longer validate. Keep the untouched original when provenance must be preserved.
